CREMA - Via Indipendenza underpass

The project includes the removal of the railroad crossing located at via Indipendenza by constructing an underpass for vehicular and bicycle and pedestrian mobility. The layout of this underpass is slightly detached from the current road.

The underpass has been realised using the technique of reinforced concrete monolith built off site and driven in by pushing hydraulic jacks. To remove the aquifer water during the digging operations, we realised in a preliminary way, a bottom plug using the jet grouting technique and reinforced concrete diaphragm walls having different length and thickness and different depths of insertion with function of both hydraulic seal and definitive structural hold. In order to contain the aquifer water we realised, along the layout located underneath, a reinforced concrete tank formed by a supportive foundation slab with vertical retaining walls on the sides. These retaining walls work as a support and are located alongside the edge beam of diaphragm walls that has the function of retaining the hydrostatic pressure. Everything has been accurately made waterproof according to the technique named “white tank”.

While pushing the monolith under the railway embankment, the tracks have been held up by provisional works such the Essen Bridge and this without interrupting the train line.

Realisation of secondary works such as: road intersections, roundabouts, works to remove hydraulic interferences, development of the road bed principal axis, road foundation, storm water drainage works, first flush treatment using water lifting installations, environmental solutions, building works for public enlightment, laying of road safety barriers, hard landscaping, road markings and traffic signs.
